The advent of social media has radically changed the dynamics of our everyday life. We’re spending a lot of time trying to stay ahead of the curve and keep abreast with the latest happenings around the world and nearby. Naturally, this has affected our productivity in the workplace.

But does Social media have to be as much of a problem as we’re making it out to be?

Let’s look at some ways to turn things around!

If you find yourself spending too much time on Facebook for instance, quitting cold turkey is not the best approach to boosting productivity. Instead, make Facebook a planned part of your day. Take small breaks of five minutes every hour and force yourself to this standard. Soon, it’ll become a habit which will satisfy your urge and also not become an impediment in your activities. You should also carry the habit outside your workplace, because this increases chances of having meaningful experiences with your peers in person.

This is not to discount the importance that Social Media can have in your overall business though. If utilized properly, social media can be an excellent way to help you achieve more. For instance, LinkedIn grants everyone access to thousands of members and hundreds of businesses and groups from around the world. Within your peers and their extended circles lie some great professionally like-minded people. Creating groups to encourage people to interact and exchange ideas creates huge potential for learning and overall growth of everyone involved. You can share best practices, consult on problems, and find opportunities to partner and collaborate! Plus LinkedIn’s powerful analytic data on its users can serve as a guiding tool towards more informed and impactful decisions for big and small businesses.

At the end of the day, Social Media presents an interesting opportunity to push your career/business forward or hold it back. It is a big responsibility which needs to be weighed out very carefully, but it has the potential to do wonders if it is utilized effectively. All it takes is the desire to achieve more, and understand the ways through which you can.
